Venture To These Pages

Hello, my name is...

Who am I?
I am Alexis Thompson. I have 5 siblings, all of which are at least five years older than me. I was born and raised an Idaho girl, and I have moved withing the boundaries of the same school district five times. When I was little, I always loved music. I loved to attend dance every week. One, because I didn't have any friends my age, and two, I simply loved music. Although I wasn't the greatest dancer, I always loved to dance. I continued taking dance for 12 more years until I finally realized that dance was not where my talent lied. I always loved to sing around the house, and every opportunity I got, I loved to perform. At one point I could hit the highest note in the Phantom Of the Opera. I could almost quote the entire movie word for word, and I sang all of the songs. I still do not get tired of that wonderful musical. When I was about six years old, we moved to a home in a big neighborhood. I almost instantly found friends, and was constantly playing with them. It was wonderful to finally be a part of something that suited my age. Down the street lived a girl named Sierra, and we are best friends today. What luck to be able to live by such a good friend! By fifth grade, a group of friends formed that included lots of awesome people. I am still part of that wonderful group of friends, and I love to hang out with them to this day.
Back to my music career, I quit taking piano from the teacher I absolutely hated and took lessons from my dad. Our lessons weren't at all effective though, and I eventually quit piano altogether. I wasn't singing as much due to becoming more mature and becoming more shy. I still liked to sing in church though, and I secretly still do to this day. In first grade, I had already begun to write poems. My dad is a very good poet (although he doesn't choose to admit it), and my grandma Thompson loved poetry as well. I guess you could say that poetry is a natural thing for me to take part in. My first completed poem was in 2nd grade I believe, and it was about a snowflake falling from the sky. Yes, it was a pretty non-advanced poem, but I was quite proud of my piece of art. From the moment I completed that poem, I was constantly on Microsoft Word, typing up whatever poems I could imagine. I also loved to write stories and loved to illustrate the words with pictures. My sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Cook, introduced me to free-write poetry. I immediately began to research the amazing concept, and was always free writing from then on. I would sometimes try to write different forms of poems such as haikus and poems that copied the structure of different nursery rhymes. I found that I loved free write poetry the most though, because it gave me a chance to forget all the rules and  just write. I have found now that I need to write poetry more. The only times I will write poems it seems, is when I know they have a purpose, like showing them to others for a certain topic; that sort of thing. I'm going to have to buckle down eventually and make myself write, because as much as I love to write, it can be hard to get myself to do it. It's like taking a shower, you don't want to get in because you'd rather do something like eat food or just go to sleep but when you enter, it seems like you can't get out due to the warming feeling of it all.
Another thing I focus my time on is the wonderful sport of volleyball. I began playing volleyball in fourth grade, and have loved it ever since. I plan to go to college in the sport, not entirely for the reason of getting my schooling paid for, but because I love volleyball. It gives me a chance to forget reality and focus on what I love to do. This summer I attended three college camps, and a camp run by the Olympian- Ryan Millar. I also went to my high school camp, of course. Although I don't really like school ball anyway. Club volleyball is where it's at. Last year our little small town team took third in one of the biggest Utah tournaments. If we would've won our semifinal match, we would have competed against aces elite. This team had a 6'5" girl, as well as other tall players. Plus, an elite team means that they draw the best players from all over the region. Our team was very fortunate to be as talented as we were.
This club season I made the scary decision to join the team: Pocatello elite. The former Pocatello Elite team received 2nd place in the national tournament, so I knew it would be an amazing opportunity to play with them. Plus, playing on the team would almost automatically get me college scholarships; at least to little schools. We get to travel all over the country, which gives the top-notch coaches a chance to see our team play. I would love to be able to play at BYU in the future, and this team might just give me the opportunity to achieve that goal. Our first tournament is in Utah on January 10th, and I am extremely exited to start up another season of club volleyball.

This is my life, in case you were wondering. These words don't even scratch the surface of the inner-me, but there you are: a deeper knowledge of the introverted girl who would rather stay home than go to a party.
